9.0Surprise, Surprise!!! Vietnamese Craft Beer. MUST TRY in Saigon!I wasn't really expecting much from this area, but this bar right here is a gem. It is clean and comfortable with an eye catching interior design. The French Vietnamese owners are enthusiastic and go out of their way to make you feel warmly welcomed. Ong Cao is located on the calmed - or let’s say polite side of the busy Bui Vien Street. It also has an upper floor with a terrace to offer with the view above the street which feels like being reserved and at the same time right in the happening. You step into the bar and immediately feel a difference compared to the little stooled beer stalls that you often see on street. How relieving. What makes this bar unique are their microbrew options. Worth to mention is the Platinum Pale Ale that has a slight touch of the Vietnamese exotic fruits of Peach, Guava, Lychee, Grapefruit and Orange. Also interesting is the Jasmine IPA. This Indian Pale with the American hops has that certain fruity hop structure. There you may even smell the Jasmine flower, if you sense it. Remarkable was the Coffee Porter which is a beer with solid character and partly hints of chocolate and (..make a guess..?) The most charismatic beer that I have ever tried here is the Kurtz’s Insane. This one has 7.1% of alcohol content and the first zip feels like a hammer on top of your head. You hear birds twitter. It first reminded me of the most awful beer in the world called “Faxe”, which is nothing but very strong has no aroma. BUT HERE you feel it’s heavy weight as well as structured taste after which is consistent with that certain light bitter taste of the hop that lies down on your tongue and won’t let go but asks you for more. I must admit, this beer somehow felt like giving me my man hood again. Lifting the glass to my mouth made my biceps visibly grow bigger. (I hoped..) They do also offer Passion Fruit Ale and a Rosé Ale. Should be stimulating for female fans who may want to take it slower than men. I also enjoyed the plate of French Charcuterie, the cold cuts platter with baguette for only VND150k which was very tasty and matching. The beer prices range between VND40k up to VND90k which is quite reasonable for the quality you get. I really enjoyed my visits here and surely will come back for more. This place taught me about how different and interesting craft beer can be. Coming from Germany myself tend to made me believe nothing much can really surprise me when it comes to beer. But this place made my eyes marveling as I just saw a laser light…Therefore it is a must go in HCMC. Education, style, culture and fun at once. If you only have one beer in Saigon, drink it here. Stop reading, GO THERE! Cam on and see you very soon again. ...Xem thêm
